College Baseball: History And Rules

The popularity of college sports in the United States has made college sports scholarship a thing that many high school students aspire to.  Many students talented in baseball are interested about their chances in playing for college baseball teams.

One of baseball's first known teams was the New York Knickerbockers, which was formed by Alexander Joy Cartwright. And on September 23, 1845 according to its constitution and by-laws, the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club was officially instituted.  In 1846 Daniel "Doc" Adams was elected President of the Knickerbockers. Two years later he headed the Committee to revise the constitution, with Cartwright serving with him. "Doc" Adams, as he was called, was later elected president of the first Base Ball Convention in 1857. He also presided over the Committee on Rules and Regulations that year, which instituted new regulations such as nine equal innings for a full game, five equal innings for a complete game, 30 yard distance between the four bases, the pitching distance should be 45 feet and he also stated that nine men should comprise a team.

With the rules better defined and with the success of the 1857 convention, the game became increasingly popular. Subsequent conventions attracted more teams. The Civil War caused membership to decrease, but it also helped introduce the game to southern parts of the United States. The membership of the National Association of Base Ball Players increased to more than 300 members in 1867.

College baseball recruiting often focuses on finding new talent amongst young people to play in their respective teams.  Kids and parents alike sometimes don't realize that senior year high school is just too late in the game to check up on prospective sports scholarships offered by colleges.

Many high school students are hoping to get noticed in college baseball recruiting in order to play in college baseball teams.  Fortunately, the Internet has proven to be a useful venue for both athletes in high school and athletic recruiters looking for new talent.  There are many websites and online forums wherein students and scouts can come together and interact.  D1Athletes is an online community wherein student athletes and coaches alike can share and exchange information they need concerning sports scholarships.  D1Athletes offers them a place to build an online presence and gain important public exposure.
